Lauren and Eric work for the Coast Guard – her in Alameda. Him in San Diego. It only seemed appropriate that we do their session near water and boats. We started out at Last Chance Saloon in Jack London Square. From there we wandered through nearby streets filled with graffiti and gritty walls — some of my favorite backdrops. Eric seemed pretty skeptical as I had him leaning up against chain-link fences and bicycle-tire sculptures, but he hung in there pretty well. Capturing the local area was significant for them since it’s where they met. We headed back toward the water, where the Coasties, who never spend much time in one place, seem to feel most at home. Eric was just in town for the weekend visiting his new wife. After the session, he drove to Oakland International Airport, where the newlyweds had to part ways. Sad goodbyes only mean sweeter visits, even if they are few and far in between.
