Kala, Chris, and their children Mason and Sophie met me on a recent summer day at Joaquin Miller Park in the Oakland hills. Moments after our introduction, Sophie told me how she is going to get married, to a prince. She wouldn’t specify which price she had her eye on, but she assured me it wasn’t Prince Charming. Near a giant fountain Sophie, who is almost 3 and 1/2 years old, found some berries that endlessly fascinated her. Her little brother Mason, who is 9 months old, checked out the berries for a bit, but he was more interested in the bikers and walkers passing by. He seems more like the playground type than the nature type and was all grins when he got to watch his sister zip down a slide. I must admit, I took a trip down the slide, too. On our journey from the fountain to the playground we stopped by a pool of water, and Sophie and I discussed what a reflection was. She didn’t seem 100 percent sold on the concept, but she seemed to have a nice time peering into the murky water. Mason and Sophie are heart-meltingly adorable and I could have continued taking pictures of them for days.
